For Koula
Koula left us in a traffic accident last night.
:(
A prayer for Koula Kuomis whom I met a few times - off the top of my head it was during the Suaram dinner where she was selling us raffle tickets, Suaram press conferences and a few other events I don’t quite remember right now. I’m glad we got a chance to talk for a while when Nat and I visited Kampung Berembang for the Human Rights Festival. It was the first and only time we chatted extensively as were snacked on oranges given by the villagers. We talked about work, weather, life and our backgrounds. I knew she was with Suaram but I was never too sure in what capacity. I last saw her in my office where she dropped by … but we were having our editorial meeting so she didn’t stay long for fear of interrupting us.
I don’t believe in God and I don’t pray. But for Koula whom I’ll always remember as warm and bubbly with a lovely demeanour, I pray she’ll rest in peace knowing that we will all miss her very much. I also pray for Koula’s boyfriend Roland to be strong and to get well soon. Nat and I visited him in SJMC this morning and - in his own words - is doing fine. He is visibly shaken but he’s holding on alright.
As Nat said, life is indeed fragile. And we learn from Yoda in Dark Rendezvous when telling Scout on how to remember Jedi masters Maks Leem and Jai Maruk by … “We honour the dead by living”.
RIP Koula.
See Sam and Jerry. And also Nat. And Eli.

Roland, stay strong for Koula’s by “honouring the dead by living.. She has touched lives and everyone who come into contact with her must be suitably enriched. Regret I never had the singular honor of meeting your Koula. Peace and Love to you, Roland.

Koula Koumis will truly be missed!
We grew up together like family. Enjoying good times with both brothers and sisters on both sides of eachothers families.
Koula made everyone laugh with her amazing character - always joking around making funny impressions of how we all acted - which made us close as friends.
She has been far and wide, experiencing many things all around the world, touching many peoples lives. This sad news has devistated us all and you will be truly missed by us all.
To Roley and the family and to everyone who had the opportunity to know Koula our thoughts and prayers go out to you.
