Starbucks.
First trip and filed story for the first time at Starbucks Bangsar.

:)
I used to work in Starbucks. Actually I worked part-time in Starbucks for about 1.5 years. Back in 2002 or something. It was one of the best experience of my life. I don’t understand why kids these days wanna grow up so fast by doing ‘intellectual’ things like internships and summer programmes. Screw those, work in Starbucks. Sure the pay is a little crap but the working environment rocks. But above all this, we are talking about working in the service industry where you get to meet all sorts of loonies who would pay RM10 for bloody latte. The jobs comes with character-building, teamwork and free coffee. It’s a very ‘people’ thing. It’s not carving a name for oneself or wanting to meet famous, powerful personalities. It’s a bout meeting Malaysians and tourists and showing them Malaysia is not as rude as its cracked up to be.
I remember fondly now. I had this customer who migrated to the United States but she was a regular at SB Jaya (where I used to work) and always had a coffee of the day. Her favourite was Sumatra. She used to call me ’smiley’ cos I wore that huge ass smile on my face every time somebody walks in. She’d bring in pictures of her kids and tell us about her holidays overseas. She then left for San Francisco and we exchanged several emails before we lost contact altogether.
I miss her. She was easily the loveliest person I met on the job. Former partners were awesome as well :)
So yeah, SB Bangsar brought back lots of memories. How I used to make iced tea (having one Iced Zen right now!). Clean the La Marzocco. Make coffee. Stock up. Yell out drinks. Conduct coffee seminars. Hug the Bearistas when new stock comes in. Sampling new cakes and coffee.
lol.
Anyway, friends are here. Dinner time. Blog soon!

yo, wattahack! i frequent starbucks too these days, after they’ve closed austin chase at bangsar shopping centre. the starbucks at bangsar village (there’s one at village 2 , on the 3rd floor, quietere) even has a real office desk for those who go there to work, like polytikus here. i don’t quite fancy starbucks’ latte, though (too creamy) so I go for their brewed coffee. when it’s time to have lunch, just cross the road to devi’s for roti canai or just a little further up to berjaya restaurant for the best mi kari in malaysia.
funding the jews? errr, you have to ask the son-in-law about that. he thinks starbucks and anwar ibrahim are working for the same boss.

IMO Starbucks is too expensive for me, students can’t afford a RM10 coffee drink.
I’m happy with my glass of teh tarik at the humble mamak stall. Cheap and good. During my student days in Melbourne, we used to have our daily dose of cafe latte and chocolate eclair at guess what, McDonalds near Taylor’s College Lonsdale Street. I still remember the barrister, she was a very cheerful woman, always greets you with a smile. Ah those were the days. Cannot survive without teh tarik and cafe latte.
