Using Foreigner To Criticise Malaysia In Parliament Is Mischievous, Says Zam

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) — Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin said it was imprudent of the DAP to bring a foreigner to Parliament to express his views on the democratic and security system in the country.

He said such things would not have happened in any other country, especially when the case mentioned was still under police investigation.

“The press Thursday reported that Parliamentary Opposition Leader Lim Kit Siang had brought a foreigner, Manjit Sokhai, from Montreal (Canada) to Parliament claiming that he had been assaulted by ‘mat rempit’ or illegal motorcycle racers.

“In this case, how can a foreigner be brought to Parliament easily and give negative statements on the country,” he told reporters at the Dewan Perdana Felda, here after joining Felda Chairman Tan Sri Dr Yusof Nor witnessing a signing of a memorandum of understanding […].

Zainuddin described the move by Lim as a political agenda as he was trying to use a foreigner to make a statement on the country’s internal problems.

Following is the full statement by the Information Minister on the move by the opposition party:

“The move by the opposition party DAP, to bring a foreigner to Parliament to express his views and make a statement had proven how democracy is practised beyond the bounds permitted by free and democratic nations including the developed countries in the west.

“Such a thing will not happen in other countries where an individual who is involved in a case that is still under police investigation is taken to Parliament and makes a statement on the case.

“Previously, they had brought two Chinese nationals who claimed that they were victims of the police in one case, but it was later proven that they had cheated the people of this country. They were not linked to the case as claimed and they had used the opposition party to exaggerate the case.

Three words Zam, my friend.

Visit Malaysia 2007.

When are these people going to get it right that a foreigner’s accusations resonate louder than a government’s justification. I think it would be very ‘Islam Hadhari’ to apologise instead. Show the world we are truly humble Asians and how hospitable we can be (that doesn’t mean how well we put people in hospitals!)

Can somebody get Zam an IQ and EQ advisor?

And Bernama sure failed in the arena of fair reporting in not carrying comments from Kit Siang or Manjit. Zam’s fault I guess.
