What a night!
I actually REALLY REALLY wanted to go for Backstreet Boys’ concert last night. Instead I ended up at a church listening to an election debate.
lol.
All I can say is that I may not have faith in religion, but I sure have faith in the residents of Petaling Jaya :) Donald Lim was ripped apart by erm, himself. You should’ve seen him squirm in his seat and how he kept passing the microphone to Dr Lim Thuan Seng in attempt to shirk from answering legitimate questions on oil subsidies, meritocracy and religion. Thuan Seng made some sense at least by explaining how things work and the restrictions he faced in his job. He was pretty darn defensive though. If he can’t handle the rakyat, then why on earth are we voting him in?
Then there is opposition Hee Loy Sian. I was disappointed. He was silent throughout the night. Not even a peep after his lack-lustrous speech. sigh. Do better PKR! We need vocal candidates for Parliament! The most impressive individual that night was most certainly Edward Lee in his beloved ‘Uncle Edward’ style :) Find someone who can give you an answer on how assessment rates are dealt with by Petaling Jaya City Council, trust me you won’t find any. I bet even people within MBPJ won’t know themselves. Edward was also really good with his clear stance on resolving the crime endemic in PJ. I’ve always had immense respect for people who take matters in their own hands instead of always whining or shifting the blame on other people. How did Thuan Seng fare? He justified that MBPJ had to do what they did in raising the assessment rates.

Who would you vote for - the man who says “that’s an issue I’ll pick up since I don’t know anything about it” or someone who already knows the concerns of the residents because he is one himself and is resolute in finding viable solutions?
The entire dialogue was good in general. Now I can REALLY gauge my candidates in order to make an informed choice. More debates from politicians please because only an immature democracy do you have one-sided ceramahs. I think DAP has sent out some invitations, are any Barisan candidates matured enough to response?
I guess not.

Yup, over at PJU our group offered a similar forum to Chew Mei Fun and Tony Pua. Tony was all for it; but Chew declined. Sigh.

Now Tikus,
You mentioned- “Then there is opposition Hee Loy Sian. I was disappointed. He was silent throughout the night. Not even a peep after his lack-lustrous speech. sigh. Do better PKR!”—3rd para
Now you reasoned it out why people are voting for BN. I never even bother to vote for BN even if the candidate is inspiring an singularly working hard for the contituency because
overall by voting 1 BN man for that reason is going to support BN overall who are champion in :-
(1) rampant corruption and apathy in combating it
(2) arbitrary policing and a questionable ACA both works for the Government
(3) NEP that benifits the circles and racisms (I am a liberal M. but I have a big heart for the poor and equilibrium economy for all)
(4) Corrupt Judiaciary
(5) Red Tapes (bureaucracy)
(6) No freedom of religion
(7) rocketed fuel price
(8) to Altantuya Sharibu
(9) More “dark-hands” at work and eminence grise in fixing cases.
(10) BN mainstream media which propagates lies and falsehoods for the Government.
*I wil buy over Malaysiakini.com from to have more transparency, accountabilities if I am the Prime Minister. I am not a subsriber but my family member is.

Harrison (others in other blogs called me Hansome) : Sorry to hear that, but it’s OK dearie, it’s okay. When you step onto the church God will touch your heart, once my Christian friend told me. He’s a Protestant Christian.

is there a video on this dialogue held at SFX?

sorry chloe. i believe the closed door event was actually off limits for the media but the parish was kind enough to allow us to report it anyway. so there were no camera crews present. perhaps you should lobby the candidates to have an open debate in public! we all should.

I’m sure unc Ed would very much like to attend an open debate.
Anybody would like to organise? Any other church which would open their doors to the public?
Do email us at edwardlee.pj@gmail.com if you’re organising something for PJ South :)

Dear Charlotte,
I almost mistaken you as a girl. Looks like a name more to a “handle”.

Vote Opposition, they tell me. I like Dr Lim, so I don’t know if I can vote against him. But I’m quite indifferent to Donald Lim and wouldn’t mind having some fresh air in PJ Selatan. However, I really, really can’t find out anything about PKR’s parliamentary candidate — Hee Loy Sian. No banners. No posters. Heck, I had to go online to find out who was running against Donald. And even then, no profile. No photo. The only-mentioned report about him is from this closed-door debate, and he apparently hardly said 10 words. Is this guy even interested in the job? How I can depend on a “ghost” of a candidate to fight for the people’s interests in Parliament? I’d like to deny BN a 2/3 majority. But I need a little more to work on. After all, it’s “Vote Wisely”, not “Vote Blindly”. C’mon PKR!
