Telawi Street Bistro.
For those who have been asking for a food post (that mean you Selvam. lol), this is for you!!
About two weeks ago I met up with my friend Shook Yee for dinner. We decided on Telawi Street Bistro, or TSB, for short. It was primary my choice as I recalled my last visit her with Nat’s family was rather delightful. The pizzas and pastas were brimming with fresh herbs that reminded me of my trip to Italy having tasted their amazingly delicious and simple delicatassen fare.
Expectation were high but how did it go? Find out below! :)

The beef lasagna was terrible. Lasagna should be made with minced beef cooked to tender perfection so it blends with the soft cheese and pasta sheets. What TSB did was chunks of hard-to-chew beef. The texture was at best, crap. Imagine chewing on a bite of lasagna …. and swallowing the pasta and cheese first then chewing on endlessly on the beef …. and heck, all I could taste after every bite was beef. May I strongly suggest mincing the meat next time?

The water tasted better than the lasagna :P

Chocolate tarte with mascarpone and oreo ice cream. It was very yummy. I’m not sure what’s the tarte is all about but it was chocolate to me and oh so delicious oreo ice cream!

Caramelised banana tart with ice cream. This was a stunner. A bit too sweet but that was balanced with a fairly bland banana and pastry. Put everything on a spoon and you get this gooey, warm yet cold, chewy yet soft, sweet dessert.
I didn’t happen to take pictures of Shook Yee’s spinach gnocchi. I think she ordered it because of the sentiments of our Italian trip where gnocchi is said to be a must try dish. I think we tried gnocchi for the very first time in Florence but I am not sure. It felt almost ages ago since we last travelled together in 2005. Distant memories that are somewhat hazy to me now :P So yes, TSB’s food may be paltry but the company was great! :)
TSB had a lot of expats and they were all eating pizzas. That was quite telling. The price range is on the high side considering the portions with our bill for two persons coming up to more than RM120. Normally I would throw quality for consideration but this meal scored rather poorly on that scale. So yes, it was exorbitant for the lousy mains we ordered. Will I go back? Maybe. Who’s treating? :)
