Monkey says …

April 30, 2008.

Press statement on parliamentarians using ‘monkey’ and ‘bigfoot’ as derogatory terms in the Dewan Rakyat

On behalf of all the monkeys and bigfeet (plural of bigfoot, no?) I feel insulted that the titular name for these two creatures were downgraded as a form of name-calling or insult used in the first 12th parliamentary session today.

Referring to a Malaysiakini report that stated:

Opposition DAP chairman and lawmaker Karpal Singh began by questioning the way the session was being held when he was distracted by a government MP, Bung Moktar Radin.

“I hope Bigfoot… does not disrupt the proceedings,” Karpal taunted him. “Bigfoot, sit down.”

Bung sprang from his chair, shouting: “I am bigfoot, you are big monkey.”

I call upon the esteemed MPs names above to apologise to monkeys and bigfoots in Malaysia for using those terms as insults for each other. Surely they would not like monkeys/bigfoots when commencing their parliamentary session to call each other ‘Karpal’ and ‘Bung’.

Imagine if this were to appear in the independent forest daily, ‘Hutankini’:

Opposition chairman and lawmaker Monkee D began by questioning the way the session was being held when he was distracted by a government MP, Bigfoot Snagwire.

“I hope Bung… does not disrupt the proceedings,” Monkee taunted him. “Bung, sit down.”

Bigfoot sprang from his chair, shouting: “I am Bung, you are big Karpal.”

Clearly this is not a healthy political culture amongst beasts and men alike. I sincerely hope the two MPs (Karpal and Bung, not Monkee and Bigfoot) will apologise to the monkey and bigfoot community for their uncouth usage of their species designation.

Sincerely,
Polytikus
(on behalf of Monkey, who has bigfeet)

Monkey: Apologise to me now!!! :)

both are idiots. childish and immature. They simply are old, impatient hotheads and have no qualms in setting bad examples to the young generation.

Sigh.. when are we going to have some sensible, intelligent conversations in Parliament? Karpal and Bung: you are not very good role models for the new MPs.

    Sandyow,

Mr. Karpal does not need any sympathy from anyone …. that Bung character … he didn’t regret one bit about his ‘bocor’ statement last year. His eventual ‘apology’ was insincere. Was really disappointed that he got re-elected … his close one eye crony is now in retirement so is the former Jerai MP famous for his ‘tunnel’ statement.

We sent the PR MPs to get down to the matter againts corrupt BN MPs.
I think they are all very excited to get down to their jobs.

Karpal is not new to the parliament, its his style. having been abused by BN MPs for many many years, he has already in his blood to react and fire straight without fear- even if its the PM. So I think what happen today was mild considered if we had all 82 MPs jumping at the throats of the 140 BN MPs.

In previous parliaments, if you had observed , when the opposition brings any issues- they are attack without justice or even allowed to defend. I have been to parliament sessions where MP tan seng giaw was giving researched ideas about the policy of price hike when an BN MP jumped up. You people are roketeers you wil fly to the moon while we are dacing and we will uphold the balance. what is this got to do with the issue?? nothing at all.. but that is their standard.

So I feel great when i see karpal, limkitsiang, azmin ali, gobind singh and many more just getting up nonstop to attack BN. Its about Time Its about time..

They may not be the opposition for long.. maybe they have to tone down when they become part of the goverment. But we shall wait for that.
Till then we shall see Big Foot become Bocor & Monkeys to become Beruks..

    wahahaah! GOOD ONE!

Ahmad Isa, if u have read what the damm BaNana had done previously (so many times after YB Karpal met with accident) to YB KARPAL, you may have to change what you had stated. He is fed up with BN sleeping boy for not putting him in their eyes. How to show wisdom? Imagine you were there and not being heard of what you want to say! Some time, i felt so sad with those bugger who does not put YB Karpal in their eyes.

  14. # 14 sandow Says:

mike, i’m not giving him attention. read my post again.

whatever it is, truth be shown that monkeys come from all parties not just BN.

  15. # 15 Mike Says:

    To Ahmad Isa,

The shame is on the BN politicians. All these years they thought they were mightier than God …. now they know how it feels to have 82 opposition MPs facing them and Senthil Arjunan is right … after having been abused for so many years it’s time for people like Karpal and the rest to teach these arrogant BN MPs a lesson.

  16. # 16 Tunku Abdul Rahim Says:

I think Karpal is great, big foot should not distruct Karpal from giving statement.
Luckly I did not get elected, otherwise I would call Big Foot by Big Cock Head instead.

  17. # 17 sandyow Says:

    But Mike,

You are trying to say that we should teach the BN MPs a lesson now? That’s pretty revengeful isnt it? And “getting even” is NOT what the rakyat wants. This behaviour is expected because of two very opposing views from both sides of the parliament. But to get involved in shouting matches and acting like babies, that is NOT the way. There are proper ways to get the message across.

Like talking like proper mature well-behaved adults instead.

  18. # 18 thinking Says:

    sandyow,

I think many people would agree with the sentiments you expressed about the rakyat’s desire for more civilised discourse. And various members on both BN and Pakatan sides will definitely give in to their baser values to play to the crowd.

    My two sen on this:

    1. This issue is getting played up by NST and experience has taught me to take any issue blown up by the NST with liberal doses of salt, and vice versa. If we really want to find out what happened, best thing is to read the Hansard.

    2. I like what MP Po Kuan posted in her blog about how the circus in parliament could be have been avoided. Basically, it’s all about respect. The Speaker and BN must treat Pakatan with respect, and vice versa, or else everything else becomes tit-for-tat and reactionary. On a similar note, I think BN has to earn the rakyat’s respect after squandering away public goodwill, while Pakatan has to make sure it keeps respect.

Read MP Po Kuan’s post here: http://pokuan.blogsome.com/2008/05/05/circus-in-parliament-avoidable-if-only/

IMHO, it’s a good analysis, plus she uses the Hansard to back her points.

On a totally none-related point, I am having a good giggle at the auto-generated google adds on the sidebar for this post as it all has to do with squirrels and monkeys. I didn’t know there was such a thing as squirrel nut zippers and squirrel monkeys :D
