. . . on what divides and unites the nation.

Yogitree, The Gardens.

Have you had enough of unhealthy MSG-laden food and keen to try something organic? Well, Jas and I checked out this new place located in The Gardens, MidValley called The Yogitree. Pictures and commentaries ahoy!

The Yogitree. Cafe, Bistro. Restaurant.

It sells yoga items too! All part if the healthy eating lifestyle approach.

Eat. Drink. Breathe. Because if not, you cannot enjoy your eating and drinking properly. lol.

A view of their menu which is available online! Brownie points for web presence!

Cutlery.

Jas’ ‘peak performer’ - grapes, pear, apple and pineapple (RM12). It was sweet with the taste of grape predominant.

Her flaky salmon and crab fishcake with tomato relish and homemade tartare sauce (RM15). True enough it was flaky! The taste was a bit too fishy for my liking but Jas really liked it! I much preferred the tomato relish which wasn’t quite enough for me!

Upon closer inspection.

Part of their daily specials … crispy prawns and pomelo Thai salad (RM18). I am not a fan of pomelo so I only tried the crispy prawn. It was reminiscent of a crunchy snack one would associate with muruku.Mostly likely better with beer :)

My ‘far eastern surprise’ - green tea, apple and lemon juice (RM12). The lemon was too strong making the drink pretty sour. They are lucky that I happen to like sour :)

To start: grilled portobello mushrooms au gratin topped with crispy gratin breadcrumbs and cheese (RM15). This was really good. Creamy without being too rich and the mushroom was fresh and not too soft from over-boiling. Highly recommended!

My grilled Mediterranean vegetables superfoods salad with pine nuts, homemade pesto and organic beans salad (RM21). Every bite reminded me of Nat who loves pine nuts and pesto. Overall the grilled vege (bell peppers, zucchini and other squashes) were grilled nicely without being burnt or having lost too much of its essential vege juices. The lettuces all pretty normal. My only problems was that the pesto was clumped all together at the bottom with the beans salad (lentils and chickpeas) so remember to give it a good mix. The pesto was also slightly too salty and they used far too much olive oil. The bean salad was the first casualty to the saltiness and oiliness but over all, it was still pretty good!

Our spread!

Dessert shared between us: pineapple upside down cake with pineapple ice cream (RM11). The cake was more bread pudding-like than your usual crumbly bake. But it tasted very nice with the slice of what appears to be canned pineapple, baked and glazed. The pineapple ice cream was good although I can’t recall having tried it in Cambodia with Jas when she mentioned it. lol. My memory is poor. So the combination came off nicely. It is interesting that the pineapple taste was not very strong and you need not worry about sourness or sharp tanginess. Rest assured it is a mild, but flavourful experience.

Burp. It was a great organic meal topped off with some plain H2O :)

I have to say I rather liked my meal! I’m going vegetarian so the idea of eating vegetables that are organic appeals very strongly these days. The setting is also very roomy with cushion seats and pastel-coloured kopitiam chairs. The menu ranges from Western steaks to pasta to breakfast sets and sandwiches and of course salads. It is interesting to note that they feature quite a selection of local favourites but me being fussy, preferred non-Malaysian food :) Malaysian food is best eaten in tried and tested hawkers, not in fusion restaurants, in my opinion.

The service was also prompt with waiters and waitresses extremely eager to clear your plates. Plain water is served in cute red glasses, drinks in broad goblets and food on big, indented plates. Price-wise, perhaps its the whole being ‘opened in posh Gardens means rental alone kena potong the people’ or that the ingredients themselves cost a fortune - the bill came up to RM120 for both of us. That’s nuts, man.

But parking was a breeze and the food was quick, tasty and healthy. I guess the occasional splurge wasn’t so bad after all :) Will I go back? Definitely. Need to bring Nat to try out their hummus and murtabel.

Heh, I’m vegetarian too. You’ve actually inspired me to try this place. They ought to give you a commission. ;-)
