Grow up Malaysia!
From Mkini, it appears the Bar Council’s ‘Conversion to Islam’ forum was forced to end earlier at 10am.
Salient points without ripping off the entire story are:
1. 300 protesters have gathered outside Bar Council headquarters
2. PKR Kulim-Bandar Baharu parliamentarian Zulkifli Nordin led the protesters
3. About 15 police officers and a Federal Reserve Unit truck were deployed, the road leading to the Bar Council office where the forum is held was closed.
4. The protesters, many of whom are from Muslim welfare organsation Perkida and Islamic party PAS, shouted, “Hancur Bar Council” (Crush Bar Council), “Hidup Islam” (Long Live Islam) and “Batal forum” (Cancel the forum); and holding up placards saying “Jangan cabar Islam” (Don’t challenge Islam) and “Bar Council, Don’t play with fire”.
5. The protesters sat down in front of the Bar Council building and vowed that they would not budge until the event has been cancelled. Some have threatened to storm the building to physically stop the forum.
This is just stupid and immature. This is why we will never have proper religious discussions because bigots are too busy protesting against forums instead engaging the general public. It really does not bid well for you religion if you are so narrow-minded and arrogant about it.
How is the Bar Council insulting or challenging Islam by having a forum on the legal aspect of conversions? More so after Syariah lawyer and Muslim authorities are given space to address the floor? Getting angry does not solve anything, especially not over a subject that will continue to haunt this country until some understanding is reached.
I’ve heard it all before. From covering Lina Joy to Subashini to Anthony Rayappan, talking to people and attending forums - if anybody is going to say Islam is a way of life and that I am not Muslim so I have no right to comment on the religion - I have heard enough.
I may not understand Islam as well as Muslims do, but I think if the religion constantly feels it is under sieged, it will always act as such whether the threat was real or imagined. Faith to me is a personal choice and to impose it onto other is exactly what it is, imposing. I disagree with imposition. Most of all, how can I have faith in the religion if it doesn’t have faith in itself?
It is better to spend time thinking and being with your loved ones. Watch some Olympic games and celebrate humanity. It’s a more meaningful route to heaven.

This is the typical attitude of bigots and morons. In Malaysia we have this disease of katak di bawah tempurung, and sweeping things under the carpet, they think if you hide something it is going to go away. No wonder the nep is a neccesity, too stupid to survive. And than you have morons from keadilan trying to out islamise umno now, so here comes the louts of islamic thought, DO NOT DISTURB OUR RELIGION, WELL NOBODY IS DISTURBING YOUR RELIGION STUPID, THE FORUM WAS ABOUT THE LAW, AND HOW IT’S BEING EXPLOITED AND MANIPULATED IN THE FORM OF forced conversions. but what do you expect from an ignorant people, “the thought of this cliche’ comes to mind, “show you, you won’t understand, explain to you, TOO stupid to understand, teach you, impossible to teach, because too stupid” so what to do, people talk about east, these clowns talk about orange or west, its the problem with upbringing, too much unnecessary useless crap stuck in the brain, and when you show them up for being stupid, they become indignent, and start foaming at the mouth, hoi bodoh read and understand lah before getting all riled up, no wonder you have so much incest, sodomy, pondans, corruption, alcohol abuse to the state of grabbing any arse that comes within reach. This is all the cause and effects of teaching in bm, and umno propoganda of keeping the malays stupid.

I’m quite disgusted actually…
how long will it take the 51-year-old country to grow, to be able to handle THE sensitive issue?
Being a rather liberal person, I feel depressed…

You are right. It is better to spend time with family and watch the Olympics. Malaysia is gone. If we can migrate, it is better to pack up and go.

tikus,
I think Mahaguru58 has taken the YB Zul post off his blog after this.
———————————————————————————————————
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 (Bernama) — Police today dismissed as a rumour talk that Kulim-Bandar Baharu Member of Parliament Zulkifli Noordin was detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) last night.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said it was a rumour probably started by irresponsible people.
He advised the people not to allow themselves to be influenced by such rumours.
Ismail said the police would investigate the Internet blogs said to have published news of the alleged detention.
Zulkifli, 46, of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) was among the people who had gathered to protest the Bar Council’s forum on conversions to Islam here yesterday.
He also led a four-member delegation to state the demonstrators’ position to the forum organisers.
Zulkifli was detained under the ISA for 60 days from Sept 29 1998 for involvement in the “reformasi” (reformation) movement, along with PKR advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

You tak tahu siapa dia ke? Simply-simply accuse him spreading rumours.
August 11th, 2008 at 1:18 am
wudan: of course i know him. he did spread unverified assertations and he called it “breaking news”. lol.
i’m surprise he took offense in that. he even amended his posts before taking it down. there are loopholes in the entire episode. why did he first say “anonymous caller” then change it to “zul nordin called me” after my so-called accusation? did zul nordin actually remember mahaguru’s number well enough to actually call him with a police officer’s mobile? why did he then remove the post after the bernama story came out? where the hell is zul nordin and why can’t we find him?
you see i’m raising questions but i am not calling all this “breaking news”. and i won’t wait for someone to verify the facts for me, i will do the investigations myself. when tony (yew) called me about this, i called zul nordin and other lawyers to be sure before i blogged about it. i couldn’t get zul and nobody could give me any confirmation.
so do i go around asserting zul may be arrested? no. lol. i just sit back and exercise patience, not sensationalism. my only regret is that i didn’t fucking screen cap everything. damn.

it is so predictable that this would happen.. in malaysia religion is not a personal issue, its a national issue and this is the reason why we will never progress if the status quo is maintained. scary shit la this.. no wonder people leaving the country like nobody’s business!

May I urge all concerned readers here to read this specific Malaysiakini report for a more complete picture: http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/87532
Or read my blog entry for the main points: https://airkosong.com/_/2008/08/11/bar-councils-conversion-forum-incident-the-beginning-of-rationale-engagement/
There is clear divide among the protesters and groups present. And some maturity there, to moderate the attempts to use force. It is not all bad.

Religion was suppose to be a guide line. Not to say whether any one ARE suppose to go against it or not. It shall be in between GOD and the person who put his/her trust and faith in GOD. The protest had left a bad perceptive for those believer of any belief . It shall be settle privately and not making it a major concern. But, come to think of it, I believed BAR council are being transparency. If they held in a close discussion, they will be deem as “secret agent doing their job”. ANY WAY also susah.
Islam institution or JAKIM (not sure which one) has put on so many man made rules. In the end of the believer life, they are suppose to meet with GOD / ALLAH and settle with HIM. Thus, It is pretty irrelevant to say the rules adhere on earth shall be usable when he/she left this world.
I fully respect my muslim bro and sis as well as other religion. I does not intend to say whether they are right or wrong. Is just my point of view upon the matter that has arise.
May we live in harmony and have the freedom in anything we do for our life.

My dear friend Tikus,
“PKR Kulim-Bandar Baharu parliamentarian Zulkifli Nordin led the protesters”
Makes me ponder whether if Pakatan Rakyat takes over (my perception as Anwar claimed before or on 16 Sept, having failed tentatively on many dates is elusive) whether Anwar will be able to control these local despots. I voted for the PR in the March election and I am wondering if the turncoats MP defects on the 16 of Sept., will they be the likes of Zulkifli Nordin? Your bf. Nat is probably having a good-time within the PKR with the fanaticism of such despots.
Hows life?

WHERE IS YB ZUL?
A Voice commented on Rocky Bru, “I received SMS to say that YB Zulkifli Nordin that particilated in the morning rally was detaiend 15 minites ago”.
12:07 AM
Rocky then updated his blog at 3 a.m.stating that according to blogger A Voice, YB Zulkifli Noordin was picked up by the cops about midnight for his role in the protest against the Bar Council forum. A Voice commented again that “Mahaguru58 confirmed my info on YB Zulkifli Nordin”.
Read here and here.
5:19 PM
Kak Nora too posted in her blog “Belum - confirm Zulkifli Nordin kena ISA.
One of her reader, janaarus commented “yb zulkifli noordin call saudara mahaguru58 semalam menyatakan dia ditahan..dan meminta dia sebar dalam blogm ahaguru58.blogspot.com x sempat tanya balai mana..dia dah letak fon..Tian Chua cuba call YB Zul tapi x dapat hubungi..ini menandakan dia sudah ditahan..
August 10, 2008 12:04 AM
Another reader, web sutera said … “Harap2 ianya tidak benar. Saya pun dah baca blog Mahaguru58.
“Ya Allah, selamatkan YB Zulkifli, amin”
August 10, 2008 12:55 AM
Later on Sunday morning, Jed Yoong wrote “Oh yeah. Hishamuddin Rais SMSed that Zukifli Noordin, Kulim MP, has allegedly been arrested under ISA for his part in the Bar Council forum demo yesterday morning”. Bang Sham! Hang pun dok main sms ke? Kah kah kah!
A short while, Susan Loone posted “Early this morning, I read over at Jed Yoong’s and Rocky Bru’s that Zulkifli Noordin was detained by police.
Meanwhile, when you tried to access the first here of the ‘here and here’ post, you will find this appearing on your screen. ‘Sorry the page you were looking for in MAHAGURU58 does not exist’. The posting dissappear after Bernama release this news on August 10, 2008 15:50 PM
Looks like Kak Nuraida also received a text about YB Zul arrest over the weekend. Wonder how much SMSes was sent and received over the weekend. Must take a look at the telcos shares again.
Suddenly, out of the blue, on Monday, a blogger, Maharajablogger posted on his/her blog alleging “Laman blog Rocky’s Bru mungkin merupakan blog yang pertama menyebarkan berita ahli Parlimen Kulim Bandar Baharu Zulkifli Noordin telah di tahan di bawah Akta Keselamatan Dalam Negeri (ISA) kerana mengadakan tunjuk perasaan dihadapan Majlis Peguam kerana membantah forum Memeluk Islam. Ini berasaskan berita itu dikemaskini pada 3 pagi 10 Ogos 2008”.
Wow! Sometimes events have unintended consequences and this rumour seem to have taken a life of its own.
Till now YB Zul is still missing. YB Zul! Where the hell are you?
(p.s. Sorry tikus. I could not include you because I could no longer access and verify what time you questioned the ‘Breaking News’. Wink-wink, Nudge-nudge. Know what I mean?)
